If you’ve been dreaming of a fairytale wedding, chances are you’ll love the new bridal collection by Alexandra Grecco, who launched her eponymous bridal fashion brand in 2014, in New York City. Titled “Birdie” and inspired by her late grandmother, the newest line of ethereal and playful, soft and feminine silhouettes is perfect for the modern-day romantic.
Being able to work on a collection that combines and speaks to the past, present and future was very special. “My grandmother sparked my interest in fashion from a young age. Some of my favourite afternoons were spent together in her attic, sorting through what I considered to be wearable art… For me, it was a magical mix of story-telling and dress-up that still inspires me to this day… Birdie often expressed the importance of buying less but spending more on a few key wardrobe pieces, ones that were produced locally, well-made and would last a lifetime. She didn’t always buy less, and sometimes spent more, but her message resonated with me and is likely what inspired my commitment to producing beautifully-constructed, heirloom-quality pieces in NYC’s Garment District,” explains the designer.
Check out this collection if you’re looking to have a fairytale moment at your wedding. The designer chose fabrics and detailing that is a cross between nostalgic and structure.. romantic draping and fairytale textures. The bridal line- crafted with silk, organza, chantilly lace and tulle- has playful embroidery that reflects Birdie’s love for floral arrangements. “Prospect Park, a place she treasured and where we shot our editorial for this collection… It was so special spending the day at the boathouse along the lake and styling the lookbook with some of her favorite accessories; a dainty straw hat with lace applique and an assortment of rings and earrings embellished with pearls,” she says.
