Simon Porte Jacquemus
Founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus, the Parisian fashion brand with over three hundred employees and a strong digital presence, has hosted novel retail experiences worldwide, before opening its first flagship store at 58, Avenue Montaigne, Paris in 2022. Following this milestone, stores opened in Dubai, Seoul, New York and London.
Over the years, Jacquemus has staged fashion shows that became viral sensations, with cinematic runway displays in spectacular locations including a lavender field, a salt mine and the Palace of Versailles! Jacquemus will now write its beauty chapter with L’Oréal Luxe.
Simon Porte Jacquemus, President, Founder and Creative Director of Jacquemus says: “Fifteen years ago, I began dreaming of and creating Jacquemus, with perfume and beauty always part of my vision for the brand. Today, I am proud to continue shaping this dream with the leading beauty group, L’Oréal.”
Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal Luxe comments: “We are thrilled to welcome Jacquemus and unleash together its outstanding luxury beauty potential. With its singular brand positioning, fueled by sensational creativity and social first playfulness, Jacquemus will perfectly complement L’Oréal Luxe’s portfolio of iconic brands and reinforce our worldwide leadership.”
The collaboration marks the culmination of a long-term plan for Jacquemus, popular for its Mediterranean aesthetic. Per WWD: “Jacquemus planned to partner with Spanish beauty and fashion company Puig on a beauty venture. Puig even acquired a 10 percent stake in the label, but the plan was aborted and Jacquemus subsequently bought back the stake. Having fiercely guarded his independence since founding his brand in 2009, the designer confirmed in October that he was seeking a minority investor to support the company’s next phase of growth…”
Jacquemus
Jacquemus was founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus in 2009 in Paris, France. Dedicated to the memory of the fashion designer’s late mother, a passion for culture inspires the ready-to-wear and accessories for men and women that reference a French way of life and universal gestures of beauty: from fine art photography to the decorative arts, cinema, painting and sculpture. The styles are minimalist, asymmetrical, surrealist and effortless.
Jacquemus has staged runway productions in such unexpected locations as a Parisian swimming pool or inside the Musée Picasso, winding through a lavender field in Provence or a wheat field outside of Paris, a salt marsh in the Camargue, a beach in Hawaii, and at the Château de Versailles. In 2012 the French designer was invited to present his collection at Paris Fashion Week. After being nominated twice for the LVMH Prize and winning a special jury prize in 2015, he has since gained not only the recognition of critics but also an international fan base that includes celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
Today, based in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, Jacquemus is an independent fashion house known for its fast growing digital presence. The French label partners with luxury retailers including Opening Ceremony in New York, Broken Arm in Paris, Gago in Aix-en-Provence and Dover Street Market in London. One of the key factors behind Jacquemus’s success is the designer’s ability to balance artistry with wearability. His collections often draw inspiration from his childhood in the south of France, incorporating elements like sun-drenched colours, rustic fabrics, and effortless silhouettes. The designer gained widespread attention for his viral accessories, including the Le Chiquito bag, which became a must-have item among celebrities.
Per BoF: ‘His collections have a child-like spirit and sense of freedom, often featuring asymmetrical designs, oversized “stiff” silhouettes, experimental makeup and shoeless or topless models. The designer has his own studio off the Place des Vosges in Le Marais. In 2017, he was invited by the Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode to stage a catwalk in his native Marseille and his Spring/Summer 2018 collection, entitled “La Bomba,” was picked up by some of the world’s biggest retailers including Selfridges, Moda Operandi and Net-a-Porter..’
Simon Porte Jacquemus’ success story is a testament to creativity, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to his vision. By fusing art, nostalgia, and contemporary design, he has carved a unique space in luxury fashion, proving that authenticity and passion can lead to global success.
