The Fashion Awards : Designer Nagami To Create A Trophy Made Out Of Parley Ocean Plastic
The Fashion Awards
The British Fashion Council (BFC) is working with Parley for the Oceans who commissioned 3D-printing design specialist Nagami to create a trophy made out of Parley Ocean Plastic®, for The Fashion Awards 2020, which this year will take on a digital format on Thursday 3rd December 2020. The BFC announced.
The trophy represents the BFC and Parley’s commitment to encourage positive change within the fashion industry, their efforts to help raise awareness and transparency to promote a more responsible future and encourage the dialogue on environmentally conscious design. The trophy spotlights the necessity of creative collaboration and eco-innovation, essential to overcome the current global crisis.
Cyrill Gutsch, Founder and CEO, Parley for the Oceans said: “We are honoured to be given the opportunity by the British Fashion Council to create this year’s Fashion Awards trophy with our partner Nagami – it’s a trophy that stands as a symbol of change and has a direct impact. The fashion community can drive the movement – we can create super trends. Purpose is the new luxury; survival and future materials is the super trend. Together we can bring change and help protect the most fragile ecosystems, the Oceans and our Planet.”
Manuel Jimenez Garcia, Founder and CEO, Nagami said: “This project underlines the importance of a radical shift in the way we produce, not only contributing to the reduction of plastic waste in our coastlines by using Ocean Plastic®, but also doing it with an incredibly compact, clean and sustainable solution: 3D Printing. We are proud of joining Parley’s mission on protecting our Oceans, and demonstrate that eco-innovation and technology can certainly help us navigating towards a more sustainable future.”
Ocean Plastic® is a premium material created from upcycled plastic waste recovered from remote islands, waters and coastlines by the Parley Global Cleanup Network. Ocean Plastic® was invented to catalyze change in response to marine plastic pollution and the destruction of our oceans. It is a catalyst for the Material Revolution and helps fund initiatives of Parley’s Ocean Plastic Program focused on: direct impact, communication and education, eco-innovation, and research and development. Each Trophy is made from the equivalent of approximately 75 intercepted plastic bottles.
Earlier this year, Cyrill Gutsch, CEO and Founder of Parley for the Oceans, joined the BFC Advisory Board and the Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF) Steering Committee. To reciprocate the partnership, Caroline Rush, BFC Chief Executive joined the Advisory Board of Parley for the Oceans, creating a long-term partnership between the two organisations to encourage positive change within the fashion industry. The result of this partnership will involve pro-active projects for students, education, and mentoring, with Parley providing dedicated missions for the BFC and the IPF networks, which will in return help raise awareness for Ocean Conservation. In line with the IPF environment pillar’s initial focus on reducing waste, the organisations will support Parley on a campaign to phase out single-use plastics as part of its commitment to Parley AIR (Avoid. Intercept. Redesign.), Parley’s strategy to end marine plastic pollution.
The Fashion Awards film will premiere on Thursday 3rd December 2020 on fashionawards.com and will celebrate the people and organisations who have led change in 2020.
