Dolce&Gabbana collaborates with Kim Kardashian’s shape-wear label SKIMS to launch a limited edition collection. The co-designed capsule of lingerie, shape-wear and lounge wear merges Dolce&Gabbana’s Sicilian heritage and Mediterranean vibe with SKIMS’ sculpting and size inclusivity.
The classic leopard print continues to strengthen this season; thanks to the news that Dolce&Gabbana and SKIMS are releasing a joint collection. Combining the Italian fashion brand’s signature ‘dolce vita’ with the shape-wear brand’s sculpting silhouettes, the collection flirts with femininity, luxurious fabrics and corsetry to create pieces that feel inherently true to both brand’s identities.
The co-designed collection takes a leaf from Kim Kardashian’s collaboration with the luxury fashion brand in 2022, which led to the debut of an 85-piece collection at Milan Fashion Week, titled ‘Ciao Kim’. The collection highlights the intersection between Dolce&Gabbana x SKIMS, mainly in the sheer fabrics, corsetry and, of course, leopard print, with a conscious focus on the sculpting shape-wear that SKIMS is acclaimed for.
For this collaboration, D&G’s maximalist aesthetic is integrated into SKIMS signature contouring shape-wear and size inclusive lingerie. Per Forbes, ‘The cultural weight of Dolce&Gabbana’s Sicilian heritage—highlighted through details like leopard prints and figure-hugging corsets—infuses a timeless sophistication into the SKIMS shape-wear pieces that still stay true to the SKIMS DNA and prioritise comfort.’
SKIMS is a solutions-oriented brand creating the next generation of underwear, loungewear and shape-wear. From technically constructed shape-wear that enhances curves to underwear that stretches to twice its size, their goal is to consistently innovate in the past and advance the industry for the future.
“It’s been an honour to collaborate with my friends Domenico and Stefano on this special collection for Dolce&Gabbana and SKIMS,” Kim Kardashian, co-founder and CCO of SKIMS, said in a statement. “We’ve taken classic Dolce&Gabbana silhouettes and leopard prints and reimagined them with the incredible fit and comfort that SKIMS is known for. This is a truly iconic partnership that I’m so excited to share with the world.”
”We hold a genuine affection for Kim and her family’’, said Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. ”Our shared bond, rooted in a long-standing friendship, naturally inspired this new collaboration centred on inclusivity and body positivity – values close to our hearts and core to SKIMS.”
Per L’Officiel Ibiza: ‘The Dolce&Gabbana and SKIMS collection is presented through a campaign shot by Nadia Lee Cohen, starring Kim and her sister Kourtney Kardashian depicted in stereotypical Italian settings, a pop-tasting homage to the culture of the Bel Paese. The campaign embodies the goal that the collection promises to pursue: a combination of the timeless charm of Italian design and the contemporary comfort of SKIMS, designed to enhance every body type, in an authentic and inclusive way.’
In a series of photographs from the collaboration, the Kardashian sisters are shown walking down an Italian street in leopard-print catsuits, with classic voluminous hairstyles. Another image shows Kim leaning out of a window in a leopard-print bralette and coordinated button-up. And yet another photograph shows her lounging in a chair wearing a black sheer mesh bodysuit, stockings and a white apron with her hair piled atop her head.
While specific details on the collection are undisclosed, expect leopard- print lingerie, contouring underwear and corsets, available in XXS—4X, with bra sizes ranging from 30A to 38DD. Designed to adapt to multiple sizes and styles, the pieces in the collection, which include tops and body-sculpting dresses too, combine aesthetics and size inclusivity. In short, it’s about creating womenswear that flatters and is comfortable for everyone, regardless of their height, weight, or body shape.
The collection by Dolce&Gabbana and SKIMS will be available on SKIMS.com, in SKIMS stores, in select Dolce&Gabbana boutiques and in the best luxury retailers, including Neiman Marcus, from November 19, 2024. The launch is timely, ahead of the holiday shopping season, looking to capitalise on one of the most lucrative retail quarters of the year.
SKIMS x Dolce&Gabbana is the perfect illustration of aligning brand values, embracing inclusivity, and delivering accessible yet luxurious products. Anticipation for the limited edition capsule highlights McKinsey findings that companies focusing on diversity and inclusion are more likely to outperform rivals: ‘Businesses that meet the needs of inclusive consumers will likely do more than raise revenues and loyalty—they may also earn dividends in other areas of the business, including attracting and retaining talent.’
The capsule collection is a strong case study of how luxury fashion can evolve to meet the demands of a diverse consumer base. By integrating comfort with style, heritage with innovation, and accessibility with exclusivity, this fashion collaboration proves that luxury is no longer out of reach.
SKIMS Reaches $4 Billion Valuation
Kim Kardashian’s shape-wear label, SKIMS, has established itself as a leading force in the fashion industry, redefining the concept of inclusive and luxurious lingerie, shape-wear and loungewear. Launched in 2019, SKIMS quickly gained traction for its focus on body positivity and size inclusivity, offering products that cater to diverse skin tones and body types. The brand’s emphasis on creating solutions-oriented lingerie, shape-wear and lounge wear that combine comfort, practicality, and high fashion appeals to consumers, solidifying SKIMS as a staple in modern shape-wear.
Per BOF: ‘SKIMS, the shape-wear and intimate brand created by Kim Kardashian, has raised $270 million in a Series C funding round that values it at $4 billion… Led by Wellington Management with participation from Green Oaks Capital Partners, D1 Capital Partners and Imaginary Ventures, the new funding will go toward product innovation, category expansion and retail expansion, SKIMS said in a statement. The company is on track to reach $750 million in net sales this year, up from about $500 million in 2022. Since its founding in 2019, Skims has raised a total of $670 million.’
Retail collaborations and strategic partnerships with major department stores further boosts its profile, contributing to both sustained revenue growth and brand credibility. By staying true to its commitment to inclusivity and comfort while continuously innovating its product line, SKIMS positions itself as more than just a shape-wear brand; it has become a leader in the broader apparel industry.
