French Luxury Department Store Printemps To Debut In New York

Opening in Manhattan’s financial district, Printemps New York is the first US outpost for the French luxury retailer, which operates 21 stores across France and the Middle East.

As a landmark building, One Wall Street has a similar heritage to the iconic Printemps Paris flagship, making it the prime location for the first New York store. Printemps will be 54,365 square feet with two levels and a façade facing Broadway.

The store, expected to open on 21 March, will combine high fashion with hospitality, positioning itself as a lifestyle destination with several restaurants, wellness services and a gift section. Fashion, however, remains central, with collections from over 450 brands, including a number of brands making their US debut.

“The US is essential in our international development strategy and opening in New York offers high visibility and growth potential. We think we can bring something unique, both to its engaged local consumer base and the strong tourist flows the city welcomes. It is also a strategic e-commerce market for luxury, fashion, home, and beauty,” says Jean-Marc Bellaiche, CEO, Printemps Groupe. “We plan to pioneer a new format of experiential retail in this fast changing and demanding market.”

Per BoF: “The entire store, in fact, will be run like a luxury hotel or resort, where shoppers can spend an entire day simply hanging out. Like a hotel, Printemps New York will have its own culinary director: Gregory Gourdet, a James Beard winner and finalist on the popular cooking competition show Top Chef. There are five food and beverage options inside Printemps New York, all of which are owned and operated by the retailer, including the much-anticipated Maison Passerelle for which Gourdet will serve as executive chef.”

Printemps has tapped seasoned executive Laura Lendrum as the CEO of Printemps America, Inc. Lendrum brings valued experience from her previous roles serving as President for Saint Laurent, Gucci and Ralph Lauren for the North American market. “Laura’s experience in Luxury, Fashion, Digital and Hospitality is a perfect match for us,” says Bellaiche.
