Born in Tokyo and trained at Central Saint Martins in London, Francesca Amfitheatrof was recognised as the head curator of the Gucci Museum from 2010 to 2013 and then Tiffany’s design director—prior to the American jewellery brand’s acquisition by LVMH. Here, she launched iconic collections such as Tiffany T and Hardwear, for which she cast Lady Gaga in its campaign.
Francesca Amfitheatrof joined Louis Vuitton in 2018, injecting a modern, artistic vision to jewellery design, which led to several revolutionary collections. Amfitheatrof debuted the 18-piece fine jewellery line for men, Les Gastons Vuitton and a 220-piece suite of jewels unveiled in Saint-Tropez. She is also behind the success of the 100-piece opening chapter of “Awakened Hands, Awakened Minds”, which bridges Louis Vuitton’s craftsmanship with historical influences.
Last week, Francesca Amfitheatrof stepped down after seven years as artistic director of jewellery and watches. “After a successful collaboration of seven years on the creation of jewellery and high jewellery collections, Louis Vuitton and Francesca Amfitheatrof have mutually decided to separate ways. With her remarkable talent and limitless creativity, Amfitheatrof has undoubtedly left an indelible impression on the legacy of jewellery at Louis Vuitton,” the company confirmed in a statement.
Amfitheatrof has not confirmed her next move. “I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to create the jewellery and high jewellery collections for Louis Vuitton. After seven wonderful and intense years, I am so proud of these collections and the legacy I leave behind as I embark on exciting new endeavours,” she said.
