To know more about the people responsible for her signature styles, here is a list of the celebrity stylists behind Ariana Grande’s iconic looks.

  • Law Roach

Law Roach started working with Ariana in 2015, and since then, he has been consistently creating the multi-award-winning singer’s biggest signature looks. But despite having come up with a myriad of outfits for Ariana over the years, Roach says four key elements will always be present in Ariana’s outfits: a mini, a crop top, a ponytail, and a pair of thigh-high boots.

In a 2019 interview with People, the self-proclaimed image architect said that “this is the DNA of the Ariana look.” He also added that this signature style is so recognizable that “a long pony, an A-line skirt, and an over-the-knee boot” will always be associated with Ariana.

Having worked as Ariana’s stylist for seven years now, Roach has dressed the singer in various outfits throughout the years, but arguably two of the most memorable styles he created for Ariana were her 2018 Met Gala and 2020 Grammys looks.

2018 Met Gala

The theme of the 2018 Met Gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination,” and with Ariana donning a flowy Sistine Chapel-printed Vera Wang gown that night, Roach certainly nailed the theme.

It is a significant night for Ariana as well because not only was it her first-ever Met Gala, but it was also the first time she appeared on the red carpet since her tragic Manchester show in 2017, where more than 20 people died in a bombing incident that followed her performance. It was a powerful comeback, and the Vera Wang gown just made it even more remarkable.

2020 Grammys

According to Roach, it is not typical for designer Giambattista Valli to create custom gowns. But in the 2020 Grammys, he made one just for Ariana. The gray tulle ball gown with a massive 20-foot diameter skirt made for a grand entrance and led to countless headlines days following the event.

The gown was so immaculate that Roach said he burst into tears when he saw Ariana try it on, and the singer confirmed that “this is THE dress!”

Ariana certainly looked like a winner when she arrived, and before the night came to a close, she did end up winning five awards for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Boyfriend,” Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.

  • Joey Thao

Saying that Ariana’s “God is a Woman” performance at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards was epic would be an understatement. Not only did she and her dancers look divine, but more importantly, Ariana also showcased female empowerment in her performance and paid homage to the people she considers the most powerful women in her life.

Towards the end, Ariana was joined on stage by her cousin Lani Grande, her mother Joan Grande, and her grandmother Marjorie Grande.

To stay true to the song’s message, celebrity stylist Joey Thao drew inspiration from The Last Supper and included crowns and thorns in the dancers’ costumes for a more religious theme.

As for Ariana, Thao donned her in gold from head to toe: a two-piece Swarovski-studded bralette top and high-waisted shorts made by Indonesian couturier Diana Putri, and a pair of over-the-knee boots featuring a metallic mesh netting and hand-embroidered sequin leopard accents made by Gianvito Rossi.

  • Mimi Cuttrell

Ariana herself admitted that she enjoys being a judge on The Voice, and so does celebrity stylist Mimi Cuttrell, who consistently gives the singer fresh and youthful styles in her appearances in one of America’s biggest singing competitions. Despite sitting on a swivel chair and being pretty much hidden for most of the show, Cuttrell still manages to come up with looks that make Ariana stand out.

From a small strapless white dress with a shell-shaped bodice by GCDS, an ethereal and almost aquatic two-piece sparkly ensemble from Miss Sohee, to the iconic Versace dress Jennifer Garner first wore in 13 Going on 30, there is no stopping Cuttrell from keeping Ariana’s place as one of the most influential fashion icons in the entertainment industry.

Takeaway Points

Just like music, dressing up one of the biggest artists of this generation can also be considered a form of artistry in itself. So when you see Ariana Grande sporting another stunning look, also remember that geniuses are working behind the scenes to make her iconic style possible.
