MIU MIU: An independent label under Prada Group
Italian luxury fashion brand Miu Miu was established in 1992 by the independent and unconventional spirit of Miuccia Prada, as a subsidiary of Prada. Known for its playful yet sophisticated aesthetic, the brand distinguishes itself with a youthful and avant-garde approach to fashion.
Miu Miu has gained a reputation for combining vintage-inspired designs with contemporary trends, often incorporating bold prints, intricate embellishments and a rebellious vibe. Over the years, Miu Miu has expanded its influence in the fashion industry through ready-to-wear collections, accessories, footwear, and eyewear, and consistently positioned itself as an experimental counterpart to Prada.

Among its most celebrated collections, Miu Miu Spring 2016 stood out with its eccentric layering, clashing prints and Victorian-inspired elements, carving a niche in contemporary fashion. Miu Miu Fall 2021 also got a lot of attention for its micro-mini skirts, oversized outerwear, and quilted details that became an instant hit. More recently, Miu Miu Spring 2022 created a cultural moment with its low-rise mini skirts and cropped tops, which became some of the most photographed and worn items by influencers and celebrities.
Miu Miu’s campaigns are impactful, featuring a mix of Hollywood stars and rising talent. Miu Miu Women’s Tales 2011 showcases short films directed by female filmmakers, highlighting themes of femininity and empowerment. The Icons campaign, featuring celebrities Emma Corrin, Sydney Sweeney, and Sadie Sink, reinforces its status as a favourite among stylish creatives. Miu Miu Spring 2023 campaign featuring Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid emphasises the brand’s balance of high fashion and wearability.
Strong brand identity, creativity and dynamism continue to foster desirability. Andrea Guerra, Group CEO, commented in a company release: “We progressed through the year with another quarter of high-quality, like-for-like growth, supporting our positive trajectory in both revenue and margins. Our brands remain desirable and relevant, thanks to the strength and consistency of their identity, creativity and sharp positioning.”

Per Vogue Business: “Led by Miuccia Prada, Miu Miu has been on a sharp growth trajectory since 2022. It has been credited for driving trends such as ballet flats, panties over tights, a rebellious take on officewear and the low-rise ultra-mini skirt — trends that, alongside its mini leather handbags, have particularly resonated with the young Chinese consumer. Its growth continues to outperform the group’s largest brand, Prada.”
