Tom Wilson is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. Drafted sixteenth by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft because of his reputation as a big hitter, Wilson made his NHL debut in the 2013-14 season. 

Wilson made the Washington Capitals as a nineteen-year-old in 2013-14, playing all 82 games and finishing with three goals, seven assists 151 penalty minutes, seventh in the NHL. The 6-foot-4 forward saw his average ice time increase by three minutes per game, to 10:56, in his second season and he had four goals, thirteen assists in sixty-seven games. He finished fourth in the NHL with 172 penalty minutes.

In 2015-16, Wilson improved on his offensive numbers with seven goals, sixteen assists. His numbers in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs were even better. Wilson finished with five goals, ten assists and was plus-11 in 21 games. He scored in Games 1 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. Wilson’s offensive numbers hit new highs in 2018-19, when he scored twenty-two goals and finished with forty points. He followed that with twenty-one goals, including five game-winners, and forty-four points in 2019-20.

Wilson signed a seven-year, $45.5 million contract with the Washington Capitals on Aug. 4 2023. In the 2024-25 season, Tom Wilson achieved a career milestone by surpassing his previous high of twenty-four goals, reaching thirty goals on March 18, 2025 against the Detroit Red Wings. This accomplishment underscores his significant offensive contributions to the Washington Capitals.
