British designer and author India Hicks has joined Bond-Eye Australia’s Sea Level swim brand to launch a new 20-piece collection, in styles such as one pieces, bikinis and power suits. Key features include plunging necklines, higher leg lines and lower back lines.

The designer, entrepreneur, author, and mother of five lives on Harbour Island in the Bahamas but travels worldwide as a humanitarian with the disaster relief agency ‘Global Empowerment Mission’. It’s this lifestyle, alongside her athletic routine, that informs the collection titled ’Designed For Life’.

The swimwear collection showcases Sea Level’s body-sculpting technology and SPF 50+ fabrics with plunging necklines, high leg cuts and low backlines designed to enhance and flatter the silhouette. Popular styles include Bound Zip Front Crop Top, Lace Bodysuit, Piper Surf Suit and Lattice One Piece.

“India’s personal style and unwavering attention to detail are evident in every element of the collection, from its proportions and colour choices to its carefully considered accents,” said CEO Steve Philpott. “The collection stands as a testament to India’s passion for the ocean, offering a curated selection of 20 exquisite swimwear pieces that capture both her love for the sea and her signature aesthetic.

“What is interesting about what we have done is I think that this collection can be worn virtually anywhere — you can almost wear it out to dinner,” India Hicks told 7news. “It is a very, very flattering fit. It holds you in all the right places. It has an SPF protection. I know that Australia obviously leads the way in swimwear but I live in the Bahamas and so I am very aware of the sun damage on my skin.”

India Hicks

Designer, entrepreneur, author, and mother of five, India Hicks was born in London. The granddaughter of Louis Mountbatten, First Earl Mountbatten of Burma and daughter of Lady Pamela Hicks, a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II, India Hicks is also the goddaughter of King Charles III.

Per Tatler: “In 1979, while Hicks was on holiday in Ireland, the Mountbattens were struck by tragedy. Several members of the family, including Lord Mountbatten, decided to go on a fishing trip. The then 11-year-old Hicks opted to stay behind and watch a Laurel and Hardy film instead. It proved a potentially life-saving decision. The boat was blown up by a bomb planted by the IRA, killing Lord Mountbatten, his grandson Nicholas Knatchbull and Paul Maxwell, a young crew member. The dowager Lady Brabourne died the following day.“

India authored four design books, modelled for Ralph Lauren and J.Crew and has been an on-air personality for Bravo and BBC. After closing her eponymous lifestyle brand, India consults with fashion, home and lifestyle brands. She is a patron for The Prince’s Trust, raising awareness and funding to help young women who face disadvantage and adversity transform their lives. In 2021, India married David Flint Wood after twenty-five years together. The couple spend most of their time in the Bahamas with their five children — Felix, Amory, Conrad, Domino and adopted son Wesley.

Significantly, India partnered with the disaster relief agency ‘Global Empowerment Mission’ as ground force in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. In 2020 she was invited to join GEM as an Executive Board member and has subsequently been part of their team during the fallout from the Surfside Tower collapse, the Tornadoes in Alabama and accompanied the team to the Polish—Ukrainian border a few weeks after the Russian invasion. India returned recently with GEM and went into Kyiv and other war torn cities assisting with aid deliveries and refugee relocations.
