She walks the talk as luxury fashion’s new entrant but the more she sees Miranda Priestley’s life up close, the more she grasps that her world is fabulous and powerful but lonely — and that great success comes at the cost of a personal life. And, she leaves when miranda says she sees herself in Andy.
‘The Devil Wears Prada’ premiered at the LA Film Festival on June 22, 2006 and grossed over $326 million. Meryl Streep’s performance earned widespread acclaim; she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. The film adapted Lauren Weisberger’s novel which fictionalised the author’s time as an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
Weisberger has published a sequel to the book: ‘Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns’, which sees Andy working as an editor at a bridal magazine as she crosses paths with Miranda once again. The plot for the sequel isn’t officially confirmed but the storyline reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing while her former assistant Emily is now a senior executive at a high-powered advertising firm.

Andy quit the ‘Runway’ at the end of the 2006 film to pursue journalism so it will be interesting to follow her career in the sequel as her paths cross with Miranda Priestley again. Karen Rosenfelt and McKenna will be the executive producers.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are all returning in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, which is in production. In addition to these actors in the 2006 film, Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh will join the cast as Miranda Priestly’s husband. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is set to release on May 1, 2026. 20th Century Studios is producing the movie at the right time — the fashion industry has just witnessed Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour stepping down after thirteen years; it’s been rumoured that Lauren Weisberger was inspired by Wintour, whom she was once assistant to! The 2006 original had insider fashion business references, and cameos from supermodels like Gisele Bundchen. This time around, it’s possible that Dua Lipa is doing a cameo!!
The Devil Wears Prada: Iconic Fashion Moments
In light of the upcoming sequel of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’—in which Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Tucci are returning, let’s take a closer look at the iconic fashion looks that went down in fashion history—Andy’s layered Chanel necklace, leather jackets and knee-high boots and Miranda’s high-high-powered editorial looks, courtesy of costume designer Patricia Field.
The minidress, the blazer, the sheer tights, the knee-high boots and the Chanel multi-layered necklace that Andy Sachs wears as a young fashion executive working in the most iconic fashion publication is one that ‘a million girls’ would die to wear. The look is subtly sexy and the combination is one that instantly posts confidence — the holy grail of character looks in fashion films.
Andy’s white coat, white gloves, white textured baker boy hat and metallic tote is another iconic look. The outerwear showcased practicality and style and Anne Hathaway completes the look with feminine gloves and a baker boy hat in sync with her signature style in the film. The silver tote bag adds versatility to the formal look, toning it down for day wear.

Andy Sach’s preppy look — white shirt fastened up to the top button layered with an off-the-shoulder dark jumper, accessorised with a layered necklace and baker boy hat — is another iconic style copied by girls attempting to look sophisticated at the corporate workplace. The layering creates depth with the different elements, highlighting the young executive’s impeccable style.

Miranda Priestly’s extravagant coats are a must-have in winter due to its quiet reflection of old money and sophistication. The contrasting pop of colour by the bright orange neckerchief makes the overall look super stylish; girls today can easily achieve a similar look by choosing a vibrant scarf instead of a neckerchief.
Meryl Streep, who played Miranda Priestly in the cult classic, told Entertainment Weekly, “Pat did a miracle with this… It was her great relationships with all the wonderful houses, the designers, the people in the fashion business that she was able to, because she’s so loved. She borrowed everything; we had to be very careful not to eat spaghetti at lunch because it’d go down the front and they couldn’t return it!”
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who has a cameo in the film as one of the girls working in Runway magazine, looks fabulous in a pair of rectangular frames she wears to work. The distinctive frame adds a touch of style that sets her apart from the others and is exactly what we would want to wear when trying to look stylish at work or when out and about — the reason it continues to trend today.
