DeMellier London was founded with the vision of doing things differently: to design handbags that would make women feel empowered and using ethical and sustainable production processes while giving back to those who need it most. All the pieces are crafted ethically in Spain or Italy using the finest sustainably sourced materials and for every piece sold DeMellier funds vaccines and treatments aimed to save the life of a child in need.

History

Demellier London was founded in 2010 by Mireia Llusia-Lindh. Born in Barcelona and settled in London, she attended university in Barcelona and Switzerland and received an MBA from Harvard Business School. She further developed her business skills and fashion acumen while working as a strategy advisor to several consumer and luxury goods firms such as Burberry and LVMH before launching Demellier London to create products that women would treasure while giving back through the brand’s charity initiative.

Designed in London by women for women, all Demellier London handbags are handcrafted in the south of Spain by local artisans using the finest Italian and Spanish materials. The brand focuses on three key areas: 1. ethical and sustainable manufacturing 2. sustainably sourced materials and 3. sustainable operations. Its pledge is to continue to research new materials and practices to ensure it is at the forefront of the ethical and sustainability practices from extending the life of their products to using sustainable materials.

“We would also like to extend the pledge to all of you and all of us to buy less, buy consciously and find out where the pieces are made, under what social conditions and with what materials. With our collective effort on both manufacturing and consumption we can make a real difference” is the founder’s message.

“I have always been a perfectionist and never liked no as an answer even if it has often meant taking the hardest route so I embarked on a mission to create handbags with no compromises. They had to be modern and of the highest quality, ethically and sustainably made but also attainable and socially conscious. DeMellier was born. All our pieces are ethically made in our trusted factories in Italy and Spain using the finest materials sustainably sourced, and for every piece you purchase we fund vaccines and treatments aimed to save the life of a child in need. For every bag purchased Demellier London funds lifesaving vaccines and treatments aimed to save the life of a child in need through their charity initiative “A Bag A Life” in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages and local vaccine providers. The funds are administered in countries such as Somalia. So far the fashion brand has funded over 350,000 vaccines and treatments. It also envisions creating mental health awareness and launched the Soul Tote- designed in collaboration with Chinese-American artist Fong Min Liao- as one of the seven totes in their capsule collection “7 Women 7 Causes”. For this not-for-profit line Mireia allied with six women to create a collection of totes, each supporting a cause close to her heart.

Vision

DeMellier London is a fast-growing award-winning contemporary handbag brand based in London. When creating handbag collections Mireia Llusia Lindh and her all-female design team visualise the women who would be wearing the pieces. The bags are then designed keeping in mind that they must be modern, beautiful and practical. The fashion brand also envisions serving as a platform to champion women rights from their 95 per cent female team at the Headquarters to promoting female talent and equality.

Key Team

Founder Mireia Llusia-Lindh is the driving force behind Demellier London. Having received an MBA from Harvard Business School, she initially worked as a management consultant. But when her first daughter was born, she felt a creative urge and sustainable fashion brand “DeMellier” was launched to make modern handbags of the highest quality. She is also a mother of 3 and passionate about children, education and championing women.

Awards and Recognition

The fashion brand was awarded “Walpole Brands of Tomorrow Award” in 2016 and “Walpole Emerging Talent Award” in 2018, recognising its commitment to innovation, craftsmanship and the highest standards of quality.
