The Indian Institute of Management Raipur (IIM Raipur) is a public, autonomous management school located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. Established in 2010, it is the tenth IIM set up by the Government of India and is recognised as an institution of national importance. Nestled across 203 acres in Atal Nagar (the new capital of Chhattisgarh), IIM Raipur offers full-time, executive and doctoral programmes in management, and emphasises ethical leadership, innovative pedagogy, and a combination of tradition with modern architecture.
History
IIM Raipur was formally inaugurated on 11 October 2010 by the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr Raman Singh, following its establishment under the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Its creation marked a significant step in extending premier management education to central India, a region with considerable economic potential due to its rich mineral and natural resources.
The Government of Chhattisgarh allocated over 200 acres of land in Atal Nagar for the permanent campus. The design was developed to merge state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities with cultural and architectural elements that symbolise the heritage of the region.
From its inception, IIM Raipur’s mission was to provide high-quality education and training in management while contributing to the socio-economic development of Chhattisgarh and beyond. It began with the flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management and gradually expanded its portfolio of courses to meet the needs of students and professionals alike. The institute’s library and information centre was developed with a strong emphasis on digital resources, offering access to ABI/Inform Complete, EBSCO Business Source Complete, Prowess, ScienceDirect and Indiastat, among others. IIM Raipur also became a member of DELNET and INDEST, thereby ensuring comprehensive support for teaching and research.
In 2012–13, IIM Raipur launched its Fellow Programme in Management, designed to produce high-level researchers and academics in the field. Around the same time, the institute introduced executive programmes, online modules and faculty development initiatives, expanding its reach to working professionals and scholars. The institute gained recognition for its academic rigour, innovative pedagogy and outreach activities, including research collaborations and corporate training programmes. Its position steadily improved in national rankings, and it is now widely regarded as one of the top newer IIMs in India.
By 2024, IIM Raipur was ranked 11th in the management category by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), solidifying its reputation as a fast-growing institute with a national footprint. Its emphasis on strong industry linkages, cutting-edge research and leadership training has placed it firmly among India’s leading management schools.
Top Courses
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), which has now evolved into a two-year full-time MBA, is the flagship course of IIM Raipur. Spread across six trimesters, the programme is designed to build a foundation in key areas of management during the first year, followed by a choice of major and minor specialisations in the second year. A mandatory summer internship connects academic knowledge with industry practice. Admissions are based on a two-stage process involving a Common Admission Process shortlist and a subsequent Personal Interview and profile mapping. Key aspects of the program include a minimum 50% marks requirement for a bachelor’s degree, a spread across six trimesters, and an 8-week summer project between the first and second years.
For working executives, the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (ePGP) offers a combination of various general management theories, soft skills and analytical methods with real world business scenario cases. It has 1000+ hours of content delivery (including 900 hours of teaching) spread across six terms which includes online classroom sessions, campus modules, capstone project and mini dissertation. Total content hours of the programme are 1020 hours.
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), launched in 2012–13, is IIM Raipur’s full-time doctoral programme. It is designed for research scholars who wish to pursue academic or high-level research careers in management. With a focus on producing original contributions to knowledge in areas such as economics, finance, marketing, organisational behaviour and operations, the FPM prepares candidates to contribute to academia, policy-making and business research.
Job Integration Rate
IIM Raipur has consistently achieved excellent placement outcomes, with most batches reporting near-complete integration into the job market. In 2024, 302 students received 302 offers from 116 recruiters, ensuring a 100 per cent placement record. The highest annual package recorded was ₹42.29 lakh, while the average stood at ₹18.15 lakh and the median at ₹17.5 lakh. The placement report also highlighted strong demand across sectors.
Sales and Marketing accounted for the largest share of placements, followed by Operations and IT, General Management, Analytics and Consulting, and Finance. This spread demonstrated the versatility of IIM Raipur graduates and the institute’s strong corporate connections. The summer placement season was equally successful, with stipends reflecting robust industry interest. In 2025, the highest stipend reached ₹3 lakh for two months, while the average stipend across the class was approximately ₹1.07 lakh. These figures underline IIM Raipur’s consistent performance in ensuring its students transition smoothly from academic training to industry roles.
